About me

Graduated from HKU (global subject ranking 14 in QS), I now serve as an Associate Professor in Dept of Economics and Finance in Hong Kong Shue Yan University. I am the founder and director of Sustainable Real Estate Research Center. My major field of research interests lies in SDGs, construction safety and health, housing economics, real estate economics, applied AI,

 I am listed as Stanford University World’s Top 2% Scientist across 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields of all scientists (2020-2022 single year, 2022 career-long) with the highest rank in the fields of artificial intelligence, Information & Communication Technologies, Environmental Sciences (2021)/energy(2022). I act as a journal editorial board member and SI editor for SSCI/SCIE journals, an author of 9 books and over 200 articles over the past eight years. Apart from writing single-authored papers mostly in my early career, I have quite an extensive academic network with research collaborators from Australia, the UK, Italy, the US, Cyprus, France, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and mainland China etc. I am also an invited keynote speaker for over 30 conferences.

Over the years, I won many local and international awards. I act as a PI and co-I for many academic research grants, including highly competitive grants from Research Grant Council and Public Policy Research Grant in Hong Kong, ARC Linkage Grant in Australia, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other grants obtained from quasi-public institutions and government departments (over 10 million). Many of these are related to artificial intelligence.

I was the outstanding reviewer of Journal of Cleaner Production, a recipient of a Fellowship from the US to study the impact of law and culture on housing fittings in China which offered me a chance to present a paper to Nobel Prize Economist Prof Douglass North and received the top three presenter award among all the fellowship recipients. I was also a recipient of a grant issued by Ministry of Education jointly with a scholar from the People’s Republic of China, a visiting fellowship awardee from Australia and a finalist award for competition law research in the US, the best paper award for the paper titled “Mechanical and Physical Properties of Basalt Fiber High Strength High Titanium Heavy Slag Concrete”, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin International Conference “Innovative Technology and Creative Work toward Sustainable Development in 2021, the best paper award for the paper titled “Fast AI Classification for analyzing construction accident claims” in 2020 Artificial Intelligence and Complex Systems Conference at Wuhan University of Technology and  ICIIP Senior Scientific Research Award in 2023.

I hold a few visiting positions in overseas university. I served as an Endeavour Research Fellow at the University of South Australia (with Professor Simon Beecham, Deputy Vice Chancellor), a visiting scholar at RMIT (with Distinguished Professor Helen Lingard) in Australia, University of Regina (with Chair Professor Christine Chan, AI research) and Feng Chia University in Taiwan. I also gave guest lecture for Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia) and Hochschule 21 (Germany). Besides, I previously served as a PhD thesis external examiner for Queensland University of Technology, University of Macau, University Putra Malaysia, MPhil thesis examiner of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and an external examiner for Open University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University. I am also invited by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) to serve as a research grant reviewer and South Africa’s National Research Foundation to evaluate the research portfolio of a professor concerning funding application.

I am a chartered surveyor, an invited member for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), an elected fellow of Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, an associate member in CIArb and HKIArb. I also act as an organiser, conference chair and member of over 200 conferences Worldwide.  I have a quite diverse academic background as I previously pursued study in FinTech (UPenn), Regulatory Compliance (UPenn), fNIRS (Boston U), computer studies (mainly AI software), psychology (drawing psychology) and higher education teaching.

My teaching portfolio includes economics, finance and real estate. Courses that I taught (since PhD candidate) includes Quantitative Methods for Economics and Finance where I use Python and R to teach the concept, Artificial Intelligience, Introduction to Economics, Principle of Economics, Managerial Economics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Issues in Economic Development, Financial Derivatives, Regulations and Management of Financial Institutions, Seminar on Global Financial Environment, Money and Banking, Research Methodology (quantitative + qualitative), Honours Project, Intelligent Building, Property Funding, Valuation and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Foundation of Finance, Land Economics, Surveying Studio etc.

I currently serve as a Appeal Board Panel member under the Cap 563 Renewal Authority Ordinance (Appointed by the HKSAR) and an expert for Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology.
